A High Intensity Discharge (HID) BMW Fog Light Light kit should be used when intense light and energy efficiency are desired. Xenon HID bulbs produce light by means of an electric arc between tungsten electrodes housed inside a transparent fused quartz arc tube. There is no filament. This tube is filled with both xenon gas and metal salts. The gas facilitates the arc's initial strike. Once the arc is started, it heats and evaporates the metal salts forming a plasma, which greatly increases the intensity of light produced by the arc and reduces its power consumption. High-intensity discharge lamps are a type of arc lamp.

Color temperature is a measurement in degrees kelvin that indicates the hue of a light source, in this case the HID bulb. Lower temperatures like 3000k will produce a deep white-yellow/gold color while higher color temperatures will output light with a more blueish hue.
